NJ Senate Bill 1967, the Freedom of Religion and Equality in Civil Marriage Act, has been voted out of committee and goes before the full state senate this Thursday!
Three more steps before gay marriage in New Jersey is legalized:
--Senate vote (Thursday)
--Assembly judiciary committee votes whether bill proceeds (~Monday)
--State assembly votes bill into law (~next Thursday)
Chairman of the NAACP Julian Bond, NJ ACLU Executive Director Deborah Jacobs, and about a dozen lawyers and professors of law (unanimously!) spoke in support of the bill last night, as well as clergy from 18 religious groups who want the right to legally solemnize same-sex unions in their traditions.
If you have a few free moments, please consider calling your state senator today. We need to bombard their offices, flood their voicemail, and pour in the letters until their mailboxes burst to let them know we don't believe in making second-class citizens in New Jersey. Not one more woman who needs to explain to a hospital doctor why she has the legal right to see her dying partner of 25 years!
Here's how to find your state senator:

This is the moment of truth in the civil rights battle of our generation. We need your help!
